Pull yourself together

在辦公室午飯的打工仔，不少會「電視撈飯」。奉勸眼淺的人，不要在午飯時間看劇情感人的節目，以免眼紅紅，不能冷靜下來（can't pull yourself together）。

Pull解「拉」，是push（推）的反義詞。例如，Please pull the door shut.（請把門關上。）Four passersby helped to push the car up the slope.（四名路人幫助把車推上斜坡。）

Pull oneself together，指「控制自己的情緒、冷靜下來、恢復鎮定、振作起來」，倒下了，要將自己拉起來，非常形象。例句：You must pull yourself together; your wife and children need you.（你必須振作起來，你的妻子和孩子需要你。）Stop crying and pull yourself together.（別哭了，控制一下自己的情緒，冷靜下來。）

動詞pull可以配搭介詞，組成短語動詞（phrasal verbs）。例如，pull off具體解「扯掉」；抽象解「成功完成」。例句：I tried to pull the wallpaper off by hand.（我嘗試用手扯掉牆紙。）The kids pulled off a great show today and the parents were very proud of them.（孩子們今天成功完成精采的表演，父母為他們感到非常驕傲。）
