New initiatives

林鄭月娥任內的第二份施政報告出爐，提出250項新措施（new initiatives）。當中法定產假即時由10周增加至14周，媽媽終於可以有更多時間陪伴和照顧初生嬰兒。

名詞initiative有兩個意思。上文提到的initiative，解「新措施、倡議」，指解決困難或改善情況的策略或計劃，是可數名詞（countable noun）。常用句式an initiative to do something，帶出新措施的目標。例句︰The Policy Address introduced a new initiative to allocate more land for public housing development.（施政報告提出一項新措施，分配更多土地予公共房屋發展。）The school announced an initiative to combat bullying.（學校宣布了打擊欺凌行為的新措施。）

Initiative還可以解「主動性」，能夠憑自己的判斷力來作出決定和做事，而不需要別人告知做甚麼，是不可數名詞（uncountable noun）。例如，He showed a lot of initiative, and was very dedicated to completing the traineeship.（他非常主動，並且致力完成實習計劃。）I appreciate that he always takes the initiative to find and solve problems.（我很欣賞他總是主動尋找和解決問題。）
