Rumours

反修例運動持續三個月，網上謠言（rumours）愈來愈多--太子站死人、新屋嶺強姦、無故失蹤、不尋常死亡等等。即使政府、警方、港鐵試圖澄清部分謠言，仍然未能平息。政府務必認真考慮成立具公信力的獨立調查委員會徹查。

名詞rumour（美式拼寫rumor）解「謠言、傳聞」。《劍橋字典》這樣定義rumour一字︰「an unofficial interesting story or piece of news that might be true or invented, and quickly spreads from person to person」（一個非正式的有趣故事或消息，可能是真實的或者捏造的，並迅速在人與人之間傳播），就是因為有趣或轟動，謠言才會迅速被傳開。

要組成句子，得知道名詞rumour常配搭的動詞。從「開始」、「聽聞」、「散播」、「調查」到「停止」、「否認」、「確認」，可以用動詞start、hear、spread、investigate、stop、deny和confirm。例句︰How can I stop the rumour from spreading further？（我可以如何阻止謠言進一步散播?）The actress confirmed the rumour that she had been dating the rock star.（那女演員證實了她與搖滾巨星約會的謠言。）
