Polarisation

人都傾向找原因支持自己的理念和觀點。政府遲遲未能解決這場政治災難，藍絲、黃絲只會各自找到愈來愈多原因去支持自己的想法，香港社會內部的兩極化（polarisation）便愈見加劇。

Pole解「地極」，南北極分別稱為the South Pole和the North Pole。名詞polarisation則解「兩極化」，取南北極為地球兩極端之意，形象化地指將某事物，尤其是包含不同人或觀點的事物，分為兩個完全獨立的組別。Polarisation可以後接介詞of，帶出甚麼事情變得兩極化。例句︰In many Canadian cities, there has been a growing polarisation of incomes.（在加拿大的許多城市，收入兩極化的現象日益嚴重。）

Polarisation不要字尾-tion，可以變成動詞polarise，解「使……兩極化」。例句︰The issue has polarised the city.（這議題使這城市兩極化。）It saddens many people that the political climate in the city has become so polarised.（這城市的政治氣氛變得兩極化，令許多人感到悲傷。）
