Undermine

北京似乎希望盡快通過港版《國安法》，以及早堵塞香港的國家安全漏洞。可是，這樣能夠令香港不那麼亂嗎﹖在這敏感時間，恐怕此舉會令港人的不滿情緒升溫，憂慮港版《國安法》損害（undermine）一國兩制。

Undermine一字非常適合用於這個語境。動詞undermine解「損害、削弱信心、削弱權威」，常指逐漸地。自九七回歸以來，這23年間，一國兩制似乎逐漸被削弱，「一國」愈來愈重要，「兩制」愈來愈薄弱。例句︰There is a growing concern that the "one country, two systems" policy will be undermined.（大家愈來愈擔心「一國兩制」政策將被削弱。）If more and more people advocate Hong Kong independence, national security will be undermined.（如果愈來愈多人主張香港獨立，國家安全就會受到損害。）

Undermine除了用於描述制度，還常用於描述信心、權威。例如，The police's excessive use of violence has undermined people's confidence in them.（警察過度使用暴力削弱了人對他們的信心。）The scandal will likely undermine his authority.（醜聞很可能會削弱他的權威。）
