Medal

香港運動員於今年奧運屢創佳績，繼早前取得一金兩銀好成績，昨天乒乓球女團及空手道劉慕裳先後取得銅牌（bronze medal），加起來香港隊今年金銀銅牌都有，很圓滿。

名詞medal解「獎牌」，以獎勵贏得比賽，金銀銅牌分別稱為a gold/ silver/ bronze medal。Medal也可以解「勳章」，用以表揚某人的特殊貢獻。在medal一字後面加上介詞for，便可點出因為甚麼而獲頒勳章。例如，a medal for courage（勇敢勳章）、a medal for heroism（英雄勳章）。

Medal可以配搭動詞win（贏得）、take（獲得）、award（頒發）、give（給予）、compete（競爭）等等。例句︰She won a total of three Olympic gold medals in running.（她一共獲得了3枚奧運跑步項目金牌。）The fireman was awarded a medal for his bravery.（那消防員因表現英勇而獲授勳章。）The American team will be competing for the gold medal tomorrow.（美國隊明天將爭奪金牌。）

如果取得很多獎牌，可以用動詞sweep（橫掃）加強語氣。例句︰Norway, Sweden and Finland swept all medals for skiing events.（挪威、瑞典和芬蘭橫掃滑雪項目的所有獎牌。）
