Sink

繼爆出輕鐵天榮站沉降情況惡化後，大圍站的沉降亦出現惡化，已沉降（has sunk）27毫米。政府貿貿然放寬天榮站的沉降停工指標，令市民更加擔心月台的結構安全。

動詞sink本意指「下沉」，某東西下降到表面的下方或底部。例句︰The property project nearby should be halted if the Tai Wai platform continues to sink.（如果大圍月台繼續沉降，應暫停附近的物業工程。）The dead blue whale sank to the bottom of the sea.（死去的藍鯨沉到海底。）

Sink一字還可以引伸指「陷入」某狀態，帶貶義。例如，He sank into deep depression when his wife died.（妻子去世，他陷入了嚴重的抑鬱。）Their father's company went bankrupt and they quickly sank into desperate poverty.（他們父親的公司破產，很快他們便陷入絕望的貧困之中。）The doctor said the old woman was sinking fast.（醫生說老太太愈來愈虛弱，即將死去。）

如果說one's heart sinks，即是指「某人失去了希望或信心」。例句︰My heart sank when he said he wanted to break up with me.（當他說他想和我分手時，我的心便往下沉。）
