Concession

為了釋除公眾的疑慮，港府就修訂《逃犯條例》作出三項共六點調整讓步（concessions）。但這些讓步是否足夠令市民安心，令大家的人權受到保障？

名詞concession可以解「讓步」，常指為結束爭端而作出的妥協。如果是「雙方讓步」，可以說mutual concessions。Concession常配搭動詞make（作出）和demand（要求）。例句︰The government will not make any further concessions.（政府不會作出更多的讓步。）The public is demanding greater concessions from the government over its proposed fugitive transfer law.（公眾要求政府就修訂《逃犯條例》作出更大的讓步。）

Concession也可以解作「折扣、價格優惠」。例如，You can get travel concessions if you are a student under 25.（25歲以下的學生可以獲得乘車優惠。）The parents demanded concessions in tuition and examination fees to economically weaker students.（父母要求向經濟較弱的學生提供學費和考試費優惠。）

Concession還可以解「（土地、財產等的）特許權」。例如，The government has granted concessions to two companies to develop the coal mines in this area.（政府已向兩家公司提供特許權，以開發該地區的煤礦。）
