Worsen

香港的示威已經持續近五個月，各方的不滿情緒愈積愈深。這場政治危機愈遲解決，警民衝突就愈惡化（worsen）。政府絕不能希冀任何經濟、房屋措施可解決這場危機。

Worse是bad的比較級形容詞（comparative adjective），指「更糟的、更差的」。例如，Let's go inside now before the rain gets worse.（在雨下得更大之前，我們現在就進去吧。）

Worsen則是動詞，解「惡化、變得更糟」。例句︰If the protest persists, the Hong Kong economy will worsen next year.（如果示威活動持續下去，明年香港經濟將惡化。）His symptoms worsened quickly, and he started having suicidal thoughts.（他的症狀迅速惡化，開始有自殺念頭。）

Worsen又可以加上-ing，變成worsening，用作形容詞，解「不斷惡化的」。例如，The worsening tourism industry will affect the livelihoods of tens of thousands of employees in related businesses.（不斷惡化的旅遊業將影響相關企業成千上萬員工的生計。）The government is responsible for the worsening political situation.（政府要為不斷惡化的政治局勢負責。）
