Predicament

不小心約了兩班不同的朋友在同一個晚上食飯，有點陷入困境（predicament）呢，該怎麼辦？一班吃晚飯，一班晚飯後聊天便是！

名詞predicament解「困境、尷尬的處境」，即是令人不知道怎麼辦的困難或不愉快的情況，然而必須做出艱難的選擇。中文會說「陷入困境」，英文也常用be in a predicament。例句︰The dispute between the two countries has put many people in a predicament.（兩國之間的爭端使許多人陷入困境。）I felt trapped in a predicament with no way out.（我感到陷入困境，無路可逃。）

相反，「擺脫困境」可以說out of predicament。例句︰We cannot do nothing；we must try our best to help him out of his predicament.（我們不能甚麼也不做，我們必須嘗試盡力幫助他擺脫困境。）People in this poor country are desperate for a way out of the financial predicament for generations.（在這個貧窮的國家，世世代代的人都渴望擺脫經濟困境。）

Predicament可以配搭形容詞same（相同的）、similar（相似的）、terrible（可怕的）、dire（嚴重的）等等。例如，My company faced the same predicament five years ago.（我的公司5年前也面臨同樣的困境。）
