Protocol

港鐵除了上星期日在油麻地站發生列車偏離路軌及車門脫落，近年亦曾遇上不少其他事故，港鐵實應全面檢視和審查維修規章（protocol）。

查字典時，會顯示名詞protocol解「規程、協定、公約」，甚至「禮儀、禮節」，這些都似乎有點抽象，單看繙譯，並不容易明白怎樣運用protocol一字。這時，可以看看英文的詳細定義和多看例句。

Collins Dictionary將protocol定義為「a system of rules about the correct way to act in formal situations」（在正式場合中，正確行事方式的規則體系），同義詞有code of behaviour（行為準則）、manners（禮儀）、conventions（慣例）等。

例句︰According to royal protocol, two direct heirs to the throne must take separate flights while travelling.（根據皇家禮儀，兩位王位直系繼承人在旅行時必須乘坐不同的航班。）Governments sometimes deliberately breach diplomatic protocol to send a message.（政府有時會故意違反外交禮儀以發出信息。）The Geneva Protocol prohibits the use of poisonous gases in war.（《日內瓦公約》禁止在戰爭中使用有毒氣體。）
